It's always the slow, sad song, right? I kicked this one out pretty quick, just as a demo, up at Pedro's place in Richmond. When I was riding home, though, I thought "wow, he recorded this really well!" The acoustic guitar had that something, and he rode me pretty hard getting some soul into the vocal performance. As a result, everybody really dug the song. And, of course, it felt like those old school, sad-sack country songs you used to hear on AM radio, driving through Kentucky to Mississippi in the muggy summertime in a beat up old VW (true story). White Line Fever was supposed to be the last tune on the EP, but this kept creeping in for some reason. Why fight it? It's an all digital world. Sad songs say so much.
About a year later, I ended up getting in touch with an amazing lap-steel player named Mike "Slo-mo" Brenner, based out of Philly. He's played with guys like Badly Drawn Boy, G-Love, Jason Molina/Magnolia Electric Company. So, really, a luminary and a fantastically expressive musician. I asked him if he'd be interested in recording some stuff with the Wigs...he liked the tracks and said yes. This was one of the first tranche back and, to be honest, it just sounds amazing. Everything the guy touches sounds -- by my humble estimation -- at least 90% better. It really lifted a great song into an EPIC one. I love the performance.
lyrics
She told me last night
I don't wanna fight anymore
Looks like its over now...
She sold everything
Gave back her wedding ring
Looks like its over now...
Can't get no sleep
Can't get no peace
Can't seem to make it through this world alone
She's leaving today
Ain't nothing I can do or say
Looks like it's over now
